The Master's Pin

WLN20 2024 Lapel Pin.jpg

I am a machinist by hobby, building working steam locomotives both model and full-size. As such, I use tools similar to operative stone masons, but with more accuracy.

The green wheel is a steam locomotive driving wheel. It represents my passion and the heart of what I have treasured my whole life.

The square is a machinist square, used to measure a 90-degree angle within .0002" (the human hair is .0005" thick) to set up something to be worked on, usually on a milling machine. It represents a Mason's continuing goal of becoming a better man illustrated by the perfect ashlar.

The compass is a useful tool for laying out bolt circles on a part and diameters on a lathe to help determine how far one can go before measuring accurately and uses a screw and nut to keep the dimension constant. The wheel is contained within the points of the compass, showing that my passions are always contained appropriately.

The blue background represents the primary color of the lodge.

All these items are contained within a three-sided triangle, representing the three degrees in masonry.
